Spotlight on the Crew!

What would life be without Magic? All of our heroes in life and fiction possess a little magic. They have a certain something you can’t explain. Maybe it’s talent, maybe it’s presence, maybe it’s just persistence or drive? There are many ways to look at it, justify and explain it, but maybe… it’s just Magic.
A few years ago, a kid showed up at the shop accidentally (he got off at the wrong bus stop) and wanted to help, so we let him. He started out sweeping floors and helping wherever needed, but he quickly became essential to the shop. Someone, impressed with the new kid, walked in and asked where he came from. We explained that he just showed up and they responded, “It must be Magic!”
That is a phrase we have used over and over as we’ve watched “Magic” grow from a kid off the street, to a bright young man. He has taken to just about everything we have thrown at him and has become, among other things, the go-to-guy in the shop for wiring.
Once he’d grown from his internship to an official employee, his first “real” job was installing a fuel-injected Chevy engine and rewiring a 1948 Bentley. A challenging job for any auto-electrician! With that under his belt he wired Jennifer Laosa’s 1966 T-Bird and Bill Householder’s 1960 Cadillac. He is also responsible for the ultra clean engine compartments and AC in those cars. Magic is a natural.
You can build a pretty decent car with the right tools, but here at Austin Speed Shop, we rely on “Magic!”

Austin Speed Shop Party 2011
Posted by: Austin Speed Shop on 04/8/2011

A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who came to Austin during the Lone Star Roundup, stopped by the shop, and by our booth at the show. We had a great time and hope you did too! It was a busy week for us leading up to the show. More on our busy week and Dave H’s 1932 Ford coupe to come soon. For now, here are a few pics of the party taken by Matt Tilbury. Matt is the brother of Patrick who is one of our fabricators here at Austin Speed Shop (clearly, talent runs in the family). Here are some pictures from the party Saturday night of D.I. and The Jade Idol (plus Bob Merkt Senior!) rockin’ at the shop.
