The Houston Autorama, a Thanksgiving Tradition.
Posted by: Austin Speed Shop on 11/24/2009
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Houston Autorama. It begins the afternoon of Thanksgiving day at the Houston Convention Center and goes through the end of the weekend. It may seem strange to some to have a car show on Thanksgiving day, but in Houston, if you have motor oil in your blood, you’ll be at the Autorama; it’s what Houstonites have been doing for 50 years. Austin Speed Shop is proud to join the tradition. We’ll be there all weekend, so please stop by and say Hello! We’re bringing the ‘36 Ford “barn-find” Cabriolet, Skip’s ‘49 Chevy truck, and of course Billy Powell’s ‘36 Ford 3-window coupe.
I heard that Magic might even be there……

Billy Powell’s 36 Ford
Posted by: Austin Speed Shop on 11/18/2009
Billy Powell of Houston, TX sold his gorgeous 54 Chevy magazine cover car with the determination to find a new project that would be a solid platform for a traditionally styled early to mid 50’s era custom. He did just that. Billy delivered to Austin Speed Shop one of the cleanest bodied 1936 Ford 3 window coupes that we’ve ever seen. Even though it’s already a nice car, to Billy, nice isn’t good enough. Over the next year, we will help Billy take this car to the next level. Phase One will include lowering it, perfecting the stance, and giving the interior some help. Future plans include upholstery work, a mild chop, different bumpers, a fresh set of wheels, tires, and hubcaps, and more. We’ll keep you posted with progress. Come check it out Thanksgiving weekend at the Houston Autorama where it will be on display with phase one completed.

SafePlace Celebration
Posted by: Austin Speed Shop on 10/16/2009
SafePlace Is celebrating its achievements with GSD&M this month and is having a benefit Charity Auction. Our good friend Dave Rockwood called over and asked if we could help out with a donation. After a little brainstorming we called our pals over at Fender Guitars Custom Shop and in no time a rockin’ creamy white Stratocaster showed up at our door. We had it pinstriped with some tasty licks by Dart…..who is one bad mofo when it comes to striping. It looks great! Thanks to everyone who pitched in and glad to be a part of such a wonderful cause!

B.F. Goodrich Nation Of Go stops at A>S>S>!!
Posted by: Austin Speed Shop on 10/5/2009
A few weeks ago we were contacted by B.F. Goodrich about a campaign they just launched called ”Nation Of Go”. They are a group of fellas traveling across the country and promoting the Nation Of Go website that allows members to blog and track their favorite spots, roadside attractions, and good old cruising routes in real time.
One of the stops was at the Austin Speed Shop. They did some filming and brought us some Ruby’s Bar-B-Q, one of our favorites. From here we took a ride over to Steve Wertheimer’s house and to then on to the famed Continental Club.

Just Finished!!! Model A Sedan Frame
Posted by: Austin Speed Shop on 09/23/2009
About 2 months ago Maggi Savo called the shop and said, ” I wanna get my fiance, Nick, a new frame for his hotrod as a wedding gift”. Nick is a good friend of ours and we were blown away. We instantly knew that he was marrying the right girl…..she’s a KEEPER…..coolest wife ever?
This was kept a complete secret from Nick until their honeymoon when she broke the news to him. Maggi “borrowed” his hotrod from their storage unit and brought it over to the shop so we could take all of the measurements we needed while they were away. Mark Ford got to work on the frame’s perimeter and got as far as he possibly could without needing more info from Nick, who was planning to make big changes to his Model A sedan. Nick’s car club, The Yay-Hoos”, pitched in a Super-Bell dropped axle and some other goodies for his chassis.
Nick has a great wife and some great friends. We were thrilled to be a part of it.

Silva’s 34 Coupe…CHOPPED
Posted by: Austin Speed Shop on 07/8/2009
A few months back Kevin Silva brought his 34 Ford Coupe to us to have the top chopped. He wanted “2.5″ inches taken out of the roof in order to maintain the proportions of the car. The rear quarter windows on these 5-window coupes can be a challenge…..they often look too small and ill proportioned once chopped. We’re very pleased with the result…….
